Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to and use of Watauga County Criminal History. Visiting a page, reading its content, or submitting a query through an available tool means that you accept every term below. Do not continue using the website if you disagree with them.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website has no connection to a local, state, or federal government agency. This site and its advertising partners do not provide services for credit decisions, employment screening, insurance underwriting, tenant screening, or another use regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Its purpose is to identify criminal-record resources in Watauga County and North Carolina. It is neither a consumer reporting agency nor a private investigation firm.

1. What This Website Is

This private reference site operates independently of government. It does not keep official records, perform government checks, retrieve files, or submit paperwork on behalf of a visitor.

The content identifies Watauga County custodians, including the Sheriff’s Office and Clerk of Superior Court, along with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Some pages also display tools supplied by outside providers.

2. Rules for Using This Site

As a condition of use, you agree not to:

  • Use automated scrapers, bots, or similar collection tools
  • Threaten, stalk, or harass anyone with information found here
  • Attempt to enter systems or data without authorization
  • Use the material for hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decisions
  • Disrupt performance or interfere with another visitor’s access
  • Violate a federal, North Carolina, or local law

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

You may not use content from this website or a linked tool to intimidate, stalk, threaten, harass, or unlawfully discriminate against another person. This restriction is especially important for the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Its Acceptable Use Policy warns that using or misusing registry data to threaten, intimidate, stalk, or harass a registrant can result in criminal prosecution. The information supports community safety, not retaliation, vigilantism, employment blacklisting, or housing discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and produce no credit report, consumer report, or background-screening product. Our advertising partners are not presented as sources for evaluating job applicants, rental applications, insurance risk, or creditworthiness. You agree not to use this website or a linked tool to:

  • Evaluate creditworthiness or insurance eligibility
  • Make a hiring or termination decision
  • Assess a rental or housing application
  • Decide eligibility for a license, permit, or government benefit
  • Carry out any other FCRA-regulated purpose

A legally permissible official process must use the appropriate North Carolina agency channel or a qualified FCRA-compliant provider, as the applicable law requires.

5. No Legal Advice

The material is general information, not legal advice. Only a licensed North Carolina attorney can advise how a warrant, conviction, pending charge, or expunction statute applies to a specific situation.

6. No Warranties

All material and services are provided "as is." We make no warranty that:

  • A partner’s search result will be complete or accurate
  • The content is current, complete, or error-free
  • The website will always remain available
  • Every page is free from bugs or security weaknesses

Criminal records change when charges are filed or dismissed and when courts enter sealing or expunction orders. Delays and omissions are possible. No content here is an official statement from a court, sheriff, or other government agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to a sheriff, court portal, state office, legal organization, or commercial search service. Those destinations are outside our control. We are not responsible for their prices, availability, privacy practices, terms, or content. Review the destination’s rules before using it.

8. Intellectual Property

Watauga County Criminal History or its content partners own the website’s text, graphics, logos, and code. Written permission is required before copying, modifying, distributing, or creating derivative material from that content.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim liability for damages arising from website use, including reliance on information supplied here or by a linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, demands, or proceedings caused by your use of the website or violation of these terms, including related legal fees and costs.

11. Governing Law

North Carolina law governs these terms, including applicable consumer-protection principles under G.S. 75-1.1. Any dispute related to website use must be brought in a court located in North Carolina.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these terms. A revision becomes effective when the updated text is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be limited or terminated at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one provision is found invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue in effect. The affected term will be narrowed only as much as needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be submitted through the Contact page.
